- Hydraulic System: The filter press is equipped with a hydraulic system that applies pressure to close the filter plates and frames. This hydraulic system typically consists of a hydraulic pump, hydraulic cylinders, valves, and control mechanisms.
- Closing Process: When the filtration process begins, the filter plates and frames are initially open. Once the slurry or suspension to be filtered is fed into the press, the hydraulic system is activated. Hydraulic pressure is applied to the hydraulic cylinders, causing them to move and press the plates and frames together, effectively sealing the filter chamber.
- Filtration: With the plates and frames sealed, the slurry is forced through the filter media (typically filter cloths) that are placed between each plate and frame. The solids are retained on the filter cloth while the filtrate (liquid) passes through the cloth and drains out of the press.
- Cake Formation: As filtration progresses, the solids accumulate on the filter cloth to form a cake. The hydraulic pressure ensures uniform compression of the cake, which enhances filtration efficiency and helps achieve a drier cake.
- Cake Discharge: Once the filtration process is complete, the hydraulic system is activated again to release the pressure and open the filter press. The solid cake can then be easily removed from the filter plates for disposal or further processing.
